Cherry Blossom tournament coaches, teams and families,
We know you are looking forward to playing in the Cherry Blossom tournament this weekend.  However, due to unprecedented prolonged overnight sub-freezing temperatures (the past 15 days, consecutively, with no change forecasted through the upcoming weekend), the SoccerPlex staff, after reviewing field conditions, has determined that their natural grass fields are not ready for play. Due to a lack of moisture and the sustained cold, the fields are very hard and activity on them could cause significant damage that would not be recoverable for the spring season.   As a result, all 21 of the natural grass fields at Soccerplex have been closed for play this weekend (the 3 synthetic turf fields remain open).  Since County fields are not yet available for use, either, there unfortunately are no other options to replace those fields that have been closed.
The following decisions therefore are announced at this time:
a)  the U11 and U12 age groups for both Boys and Girls will be played AS SCHEDULED.  All games for these age groups are on synthetic turf fields.
b)  all other age groups are canceled in their entirety, and those teams will receive full refunds of their registration fees (refund checks will be sent during the week of April 16).
We regret that weather conditions have led us to this unusual position, and apologize for the inconvenience to so many teams, especially our out-of-town guests.  Let's all hope for a steady warming of temps as we look forward to the spring season openers.
Thank you,
Maryland SoccerPlex
