Maryland Soccer Foundation Names Matt Libber as Executive Director

Libber takes on leadership role as founding executive director retires

The Board of Directors of the Maryland Soccer Foundation (MSF) is pleased to announce that Matt Libber has been selected as its next executive director. Libber will join the Foundation - which owns and operates the Maryland SoccerPlex, Discovery Sports Center and SAM Soccer - on January 2, 2019.

“Matt brings a passion for sports as well as the demonstrated financial and marketing skills demanded by a rapidly transforming soccer market,” commented Brent Hanson, Chairman of the MSF Board of Directors. “Our national search evaluated a number of qualified candidates and we are thrilled to have someone in place who can hit the ground running. Matt has successfully promoted sports events across the country and will provide the entrepreneurial spark needed to take the Foundation to the next level.”

Libber joins MSF following an 18-year tenure at Elite Tournaments where he served as Vice President of Business Operations, overseeing more than 60 events in 16 states. During his leadership, Elite Tournaments grew from a single sport management entity to a multi-sport management company.

Upon his selection, Libber recognized the Maryland SoccerPlex as a local asset with a remarkable national reputation and added, “This is an exciting opportunity to continue the rich legacy paved by the outgoing executive director while taking on the challenge to reach new levels of growth and excellence in the future. I look forward to leading the Maryland Soccer Foundation and continuing the effort to make the Maryland SoccerPlex the best sports complex in the country.”

Libber replaces outgoing executive director, Trish Heffelfinger, who announced her retirement earlier this year. Hanson commended the work of the founding executive director, “Trish has built an incredible legacy for the soccer community and for Montgomery County. We are grateful for her 20 years of dedicated service.”
