The TOPSoccer program is the national adaptive soccer program for children with disabilities. In Maryland, TOPSoccer is an MSI program with about 80 children participating. The emphasis in the program is placed on development, training, teambuilding and participation rather than competition. This year's TOPSoccer festival was held at the Maryland SoccerPlex on Sunday, November 3rd and was a huge success for all those who participated! Highlights of the day included 5v5 Unified soccer, individual skills competition and 3v3 SOCCS (Special Olympics Closed Court Soccer). Teams from all parts of Maryland and two teams from Virginia participated in the event. MSYSA, through Executive Director Jerry May, has shown wonderful support in the outreach and development of the program, and as a result of that support, TOPSoccer was presented with a $5000 grant from Soccer '94 at the festival. This is a valuable and wonderful program and we hope that the excitement generated by the 2002 Maryland SoccerPlex TOPSoccer Festival will spread.
