Washington Spirit home games, Embassy Cup, Mid-Atlantic Cup

 other major youth tournaments headline June schedule

Boyds, MD (June 2, 2015) - As always, June will be one of the most exciting and packed months of the year at the Maryland SoccerPlex and Discovery Sports Center. Along with a wide range of youth soccer, basketball, volleyball and lacrosse events, including the inaugural edition of the Embassy Cup, the hometown women's professional soccer team the Washington Spirit is slated to host matches at the SoccerPlex. Community organizations including Wounded Warrior Soccer and Goals for Girls also have events coming up at the SoccerPlex.

Holy Cross Germantown Hospital Diabetes Prevention Seminar
June 2 (6:30-8 p.m.)          
Location: Discovery Sports Center

Patricia Ethridge, a Registered Nurse and Holy Cross Health Diabetes Prevention Educator, will present on Diabetes Prevention at the Discovery Sports Center on June 2. The event is part of a series of free health seminars at the Maryland SoccerPlex in 2015. The first 20 people to register will be placed in a drawing to win D.C. United tickets. Bump, Set, Drink Volleyball League Championships
June 4 (7 p.m.)
Location: Discovery Sports Center

'Bump, Set, Drink', the popular adult volleyball league will decide its league champions on June 4 with the final day of the playoffs. The co-ed league plays on Thursday nights at the Discover Sports Center. The Spring season began in May. The summer session registration closes June 7 with a pick up night June 11 and preseason June 18, 25. The summer season starts July 2. +More Information

Conclusion of SAM Spring Outdoor Season
June 6-7
Location: Complex Wide

The Soccer Association of Montgomery Recreational and SELECT leagues will conclude their spring seasons on the first weekend of June. Many of the divisions  will be decided on the final days of the season across the age groups, with two, three or even four teams still in contention to finish at the top of the table. +More Information

Washington Spirit NWSL home matches
June 6 (7 p.m.) vs. Boston Breakers | Tickets
June 27 (7 p.m.) vs. Houston Dash | Tickets
Location: Maureen Hendricks Field

The Washington Spirit earned another big win on Saturday, May 30, defeating Portland Thorns FC 2-1 at Maureen Hendricks Field. Crystal Dunn, the leading scorer in the National Women's Soccer League, netted the game-winning goal for the Spirit, who have two more home matches coming up in June. The Spirit will play the Boston Breakers on June 6 and the Houston Dash on June 27 at the SoccerPlex.

Conclusion of Spring BOOST Clinic
June 8
Location: Complex Wide

The final Spring BOOST Clinic, an addition to the SAM Rec and SELECT Programs, takes place on June 8 with the eighth and final supplemental training session of the season for the U-9 boys age group. The U-9 and U-10 girls conclude their eight-week sessions on Tuesday, June 2 and Thursday, June 4. Local youth soccer coach Josh May runs the training sessions. 

Women's World Cup Viewing Parties with SAM Soccer

Location: Largent's in Kentlands, 654 Center Point Way, Gaithersburg, MD 20878

SAM Soccer will host World Cup Viewing Parties for the U.S. Women's National Team's World Cup group matches against Australia and Nigeria on June 8 and 16. The viewing parties will be held at Largent's Restaurant in Kentlands. The parties will begin at 7 p.m. and the matches kick off at 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. ET, respectively. Mid-Atlantic Cup
June 13-14 | Schedule

The 2015 Mid-Atlantic Cup will feature 29 total flights of boys, girls and co-ed youth soccer teams ranging from U-8 to U-18/19. The Mid-Atlantic Cup features multiple field sizes and competition rules for the younger age groups, optimizing development for teams of various levels. The event is for recreational and travel soccer teams, including SAM SELECT and Classic, NCSL and WAGS Divisions 4-6. +More Information

Champions of Tomorrow (COT) Lacrosse Premier Showcase
June 13-14
Location: Complex Wide

The Champions of Tomorrow Lacrosse Premier Showcase, one of the region's highly competitive girls lacrosse events, hits the SoccerPlex June 13-14. Champions of Tomorrow girl's lacrosse regularly plays at the SoccerPlex throughout the year, with showcase events for middle and high school age groups. +More Information

Summer Camps begin 
June 15
Location: Complex Wide

Just in time for the last day of Montgomery County Public Schools which conclude on June 15, Maryland SoccerPlex and Discovery Sports Center Summer Camps begin on June 15. Summertime at the SoccerPlex features 11 weeks of camps, including soccer and basketball specific camps, all-sports camps, various multi-sport camps and the Mighty Mites Mini Camp which includes 8 different themed weeks for boys and girls ages 3-4. +More Information

Summer Pre-Kicks and Kickers starts
June 15

As the Spring Pre-Kicks and Kickers sessions come to a close, the summer edition kicks off on June 15. Pre-kicks (ages 3-4) and Kickers (ages 5-7) provide additional skill development for young soccer players through SAM Soccer +More Information

Embassy Cup
June 19-21 | Schedule

Bethesda Soccer Club and the Maryland SoccerPlex are launching a dual-level tournament, which will include a Premier level bracket for international teams from all over the world and some of the United States' top teams, along with a Qualifier bracket for the Bethesda Cup in November. The inaugural running of the Embassy Cup, which will only include domestic teams in 2015, is set for June 19-21. +More Information

DC Scores Cup
June 20
Location: Complex Wide

The DC SCORES Cup is the largest annual charity soccer tournament in the Washington, DC, area and one of DC SCORES' largest fundraisers. The World Cup-style, round robin co-ed tournament, created in 2003, pits local law firms and corporations against each other in a fun, competitive environment. The tournament is split into two 16-team divisions, competitive and casual. Almost 90 percent of all monies raised directly benefits the DC SCORES program for 1,500 low-income youth. +More Information

MD Flames Summer Challenge
June 20-21
Location: Discovery Sports Center

The Maryland Flames AAU basketball program is hosting a tournament at the Discovery Sports Center June 20-21 with each team playing three games over the course of two days. The Maryland Flames Summer Challenge is for boys and girls teams ranging from 3rd grade to 12th grade. +More Information

Location: SoccerPlex

The SAM SELECT Combine is for players that are looking to join a SELECT team. Boys players eligible for the U-10 to U-15 age groups and girls players eligible for the U10 to U12 age groups are invited to the Combine, which serves as an open tryout for players looking to take the next step in their youth soccer pathway. Participants have the opportunity to compete in scrimmages to showcase their abilities. +More Information

DC Metro Showcase Basketball
June 27-28
Location: Discovery Sports Center

A, B and C level boys travel basketball teams in the 11th and 12th grade age groups will compete in a DC Metro Showcase Exposure Basketball event from June 27-28. Each team will play three games over the course of two days at the Discovery Sports Center. +More Information

Wounded Warriors Event
June 27-28
Location: Maureen Hendricks Field

Wounded Warriors Soccer (WWS) returns to the Maryland SoccerPlex this summer on June 27 for a community event. WWS provides the means and venue for our nation's Wounded Warriors and their families to interact with the civilian community through soccer. WWS facilitates the participation of the warriors and their immediate families in soccer clinics, practices, and friendly competitions in supportive local leagues. +More Information

Goals for Girls Clinic
June 27
Location: SoccerPlex

Girls soccer players will have the opportunity to train with U.S. Women's National Team legends Cindy Parlow Cone and Lori Lindsey on June 27 at the SoccerPlex. The host of the event, Goals for Girls, connects girls from different countries and backgrounds with their peers around the world in a forum that addresses social and health challenges through cultural exchange and soccer. Following the Goals for Girls clinic, the Washington Spirit is playing the Houston Dash at the SoccerPlex at 7 p.m. Discounted tickets are available. +Register Here

Premier College Combine

One of the top college soccer showcase organizations in the country, Premier College Combine, will be at the SoccerPlex on June 27 as part of its summer tour covering 17 major cities throughout the East Coast and Midwest.
