The Maryland SoccerPlex has named Mitch Litz as the Director of Grounds and Environmental Management. Litz had served as the Manager of Grounds at the Maryland SoccerPlex since 2015
“The Director of Grounds and Environmental Management is a very important position for the Maryland SoccerPlex and we considered doing a full national searchsaid Maryland SoccerPlex Executive Director, Matt Libber. “However, early into the process, we began to realize that our internal candidate Mitch Litz was more than ready to take over. We are proud to promote Mitch into this position.”
Litz served as the Manager of Grounds at the SoccerPlex since 2015 was in charge of overseeing a grounds crew of 10 people to ensure the fields were in optimum shape, a designation which has been validated by the fields earning various awards from national outlets. The SoccerPlex has 19 full natural grass fields as well as three synthetic fields and hosts over 800,000 visitors a year. The SoccerPlex hosts numerous soccer tournaments is home for both the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and Soccer Association of Montgomery (SAM), numerous lacrosse tournaments, ultimate Frisbee events, and many recreational leagues.
Prior to working at the SoccerPlex Litz served as the assistant groundskeeper for the Columbus Crew. From 2013-2015 he helped maintain the stadium to professional, collegiate and high school standards. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University with a focus on Turfgrass Science. He is a member of the Sports Turf Managers Association and the Mid-Atlantic Sports Turf Managers Association.
